As a healthcare provider, you’re committed to improving the healthcare community in your region and curing the ailments of your patients. However, far too often, doctors and nurses don’t lead the healthy lifestyles they preach to their patients. If you truly want to improve the world and ensure your patients trust your advice, you must bypass unhealthy habits and make better choices.

You are What you Do

You simply can’t advocate healthy living when you haven’t incorporated those practices into your personal habits. By adopting healthy eating and regular exercise into your life, you’ll be more able to encourage patients to do the same. These personal lifestyle changes will even allow you to offer examples of how the changes improved your well-being.

Real World Patient Interactions

If you live in a smaller community, you’ll inevitably see patients outside office hours. Whether you pass them in the grocery store or spot them across a crowded restaurant, these interactions are bound to occur. Imagine how a patient would feel to see a healthcare professional engaging in an unhealthy lifestyle when they were encouraged to do the opposite by the very same practitioner. This would be a very confusing situation and could lead to the patient abandoning the healthful living advice.

As a healthcare provider, you needn’t abstain completely from having a good time and leading a social lifestyle. However, when the chance exists that you’ll encounter patients in real world situations, you must remain committed to airing a professional demeanor to avoid confusion and mistrust.
