If you are all interested in medical based TV shoes like Grey’s Anatomy then you have probably seen the characters use cool technology to treat strange illnesses that their patients have. You have seen them use computers, weird equipment, and new advancements.
However, you have probably also seen them use some of the most basic and some of the oldest hospital staples like clip boards. So, the question becomes is the new medical technology as beneficial to our health as the old?
There is no doubt that as understanding about the human body and diseases becomes more clear, technological advancements not only become more beneficial but they become necessary. Machines like MRIs and C-SCANS have saved countless lives. As we are able to see inside the body with X-rays and look at blood cells we are better able to understand the body and treat patients. Obviously, in these ways, the technology has improved the way patients are treated.
However, new advancements like computer stored files have people a little nervous. Rather than having patient information stored on a chart with hand written notes by doctors and nurses, many hospitals are switching to computerized files that can be accessed throughout the hospital. One fear patients have with this new technology is that computer mistakes are fairly easy to make. It is very easy to hit a wrong key or misspell a medication name causing a patient to be treated incorrectly. However, many people feel these developments are better as information can be accessed quickly from anywhere with in the hospital allowing treatment decisions to be made immediately.
